Is Karma Real?
Ever hear the terms “do on to others as you want thy wish on to thee” or “you got what you deserved”? That is the basis of the Karma concept. When you do nice things and are generally nice to others, the universe mystically rewards you by fulfilling your life with nice things and nice people. The opposite is true and sometime doubly true for those that are not nice to others. Now, no one can really prove if karma exists or not. It is not a physical element that we can properly test in a lab and even when events in our life seem to align more towards a positive or negative stretch, there will always be at least one scientific geek out there to point out the ugly possibility of coincidence. So, the answer is that we cannot prove it exists, but at the same time we cannot disprove its existence.
But, it seems to me that this is one of those things in life where you would ask yourself “why take the chance of being wrong?” Very few people would stare down the barrel of a gun and pull the trigger even if they think the gun is not loaded. The idea presented in the karma theory naturally promotes a better world altogether and keeps human evilness at bay, so why tamper with something that helps bring peace and joy to the world.
Personally, as a self-proclaimed realist (a.k.a borderline scientific geek), I do not believe in the karma “theory”, but I do believe in the karma “affect”. I do not really care if people are being nice because they want nice things to happen to them or if people are being nice because they are afraid bad things will happen to them if they aren’t – I’m just happy to see that people are being nice to each other, period.
So, I think it is safe to say that karma really is a wonderful thing regardless of your intentions, fears or beliefs surrounding it. Does it matter if we can prove it exists – nah… The world is no better if we can disprove it so let’s just leave it at that.
